Anyway they ought not be overlooked in light of the fact that they have molded American writing into what it is today. Two of the more significant abstract developments of the late eighteenth century to the mid nineteenth century are introspective philosophy and sentimentalism. Introspective philosophy was an abstract development in the main portion of the nineteenth century. Visionaries were affected by sentimentalism, particularly such parts of self assessment, the festival of independence, and the investigating the marvels of nature and of mankind. As per them, satisfying the quest for information came when one increased an attention to excellence and truth, and spoke with nature to discover association with the ? Over-Soul? , a term utilized by Emerson instead of God. At the point when this happened, one was purged of materialistic objectives, and was left with a feeling of independence and virtue. Pioneers of this development incorporate Ralph Waldo Emerson, Margaret Fuller, Theodore Parker, Bronson Alcott, William Ellery Channing, and Henry David Thoreau. Visionaries can be viewed as an age of knowledgeable individuals who lived in the decades prior to the American Civil War. (Lewis, ? What is Transcendentalism ) Transcendentalists intentionally approached making writing, papers, books, reasoning, verse, and other composing that was obviously not quite the same as anything from England, France, Germany, or some other European Nation. The idea of introspective philosophy is plainly communicated in the paper Nature, by Ralph Waldo Emerson. His exposition Nature recounts how one can pick up understanding and otherworldly purifying just from encountering nature. Emerson recounts how in the forested areas is never-ending youth and in the forested areas we come back to reason and confidence. These lines show the entire idea of introspective philosophy. In the accompanying lines, Emerson comments: Standing on the exposed ground-my head washed by the joyful air and inspired into unbounded space-all mean self love disappears. I become a straightforward eyeball: I am nothing; I see every one of; the flows of the Universal Being course through me; I am part or package of God. (Emerson, ? Nature? ) These lines show the visionary elief that virtue and information can be gotten from an association with and comprehension of nature. Emerson additionally relates the idea of introspective philosophy to human life in his article, Self-Reliance. In this article, Emerson discusses another piece of introspective philosophy, the issue of confidence. He considers humankind to be to some degree a defeatist and that individuals never express their actual selves. Emerson asserts that people are hesitant to come up short and regardless of what achievement may come to them, they will never be glad, they generally need more. He communicates visionary goals by saying that a genuine individual would be a non-conventionalist. Emerson articulates this faith in the accompanying lines: There is a period in each man? s instruction when he shows up at the conviction that jealousy is obliviousness; that impersonation is self destruction; that he should take himself for better, for more regrettable, as his segment, no part of supporting corn can come to him yet through his work. These words essentially summarize the possibility of introspective philosophy, that one must commend the person so as to get himself one with the universe. Another noteworthy commitment to the possibility of introspective philosophy was by the creator Henry David Thoreau. Thoreau lived in a similar home as Emerson. His generally respected and delighted in work was the story, Walden. In Walden, Thoreau clarifies why he picked the forested areas: I went to the forested areas since I wished to live purposely, to front just the fundamental unavoidable issues facing everyone, and check whether I was unable to realize what it needed to instruct, and not, when I came to kick the bucket, find that I had not lived. I didn't wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to rehearse renunciation, except if it was very essential. Thoreau decided to live in confinement since he accepted isolation was the best friend so as to know one? s genuine self. In the exposition, he felt that humanity was excessively up to speed in material belongings. Thoreau gave introspective philosophy three key thoughts, independence, information on nature, and the removal of material effects. Introspective philosophy was one of the most significant developments of the nineteenth century. This development took into account one to comprehend the significance of getting familiar with oneself. In the event that an individual could associate their individual soul ith the universe, they could satisfy their potential throughout everyday life. Sentimentalism is a creative and scholarly development that began in the late eighteenth century and focused on forceful feeling, creative mind, opportunity from traditional rightness in fine arts, and disobedience to social shows. Sentimentalism additionally is a disposition or scholarly direction that described numerous works of writing, painting, music, design, analysis, and historiography in Western human progress over a period from the late eighteenth to the mid nineteenth century. Sentimentalism can be viewed as a dismissal of the statutes of request, quiet, agreement, parity, glorification, and late eighteenth century Neoclassicism. (WebMuseum: Romanticism) It was likewise somewhat a response against the Enlightenment and against eighteenth century logic and physical realism. Sentimentalism underscored the individual, the abstract, the nonsensical, the inventive, the individual, the unconstrained, the enthusiastic, the visionary, and the supernatural. Among the trademark perspectives of Romanticism were the accompanying: an extended energy about the delights of nature; a general magnification of feeling over explanation and of the faculties over astuteness; a turning in upon oneself and an increased assessment of human character and its states of mind and mental possibilities; a distraction with the virtuoso, the saint, and the uncommon figure by and large, and an attention on his interests and internal battles; another perspective on the craftsman as a remarkably singular maker, whose inventive soul is a higher priority than severe adherence to formal principles and customary strategies; an accentuation upon creative mind as a portal to extraordinary experience and otherworldly truth; a fanatical enthusiasm for people culture, national and ethnic social causes, and the medieval time; and a preference for the fascinating, the remote, the strange, the abnormal, the mysterious, the gigantic, the ailing, and even the evil. (WebMuseum : Romanticism) A portion of the creators of this development incorporate Jean Jacques Rousseau, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Johann Gottfried von Herder, and Justus Moser. Rousseau set up the possibility of the individual and advocated the opportunity of the human soul. One of his most well known expressions were ? I felt before I thought?. Goethe, Herder, and Moser cooperated on a gathering of articles entitled Von deutscher Art und Kunst. In this work the creators praised the sentimental soul as showed in German Folk tunes, Gothic engineering, and the plays of William Shakespeare. Goethe needed to copy Shakespeare? free-form in hit Gotz von Berlichingen, a chronicled show about a sixteenth century looter night. This play supported rebel against political power. One of the extraordinary powerful reports of sentimentalism was Goethe? s Sorrows of Young Werther. This work acclaims conclusion, even to the degree of advocating ending it all because of adoration. These were only a portion of the numerous works that described the goals of Romanticism. Without the supernatural and sentimentalism developments American writing would not be what it is today. These developments have molded the way today? s writers approach composing. Likewise these developments have took into consideration one to grow their psyche to new thoughts and better approaches for moving toward life. maryannbennett199http://www.blogger.com/profile/06646277293866896517noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6351183451376243265.post-62615967565179112982020-08-22T01:57:00.001-07:002020-08-22T01:57:21.530-07:00Managing Change in Organisations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 wordsOverseeing Change in Organizations - Essay Example Representatives and laborers must be well-prepared in the information economy with the vital mental, physical and mental capacities. However, when viewed through the lenses of psychoanalysis and feminism, different interpretations emerge. Psychoanalysis provides a glimpse into the mind of Marlow. The story reads as if it takes place within a dream world. Feminist theory examines the perceptible qualities associated with women. Each theory presents a new way of interpreting and understanding the character development and imagery within the story. Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, detailed the inner elements of the mind called the id, superego, and ego (Thornton). The id represents the primal, primitive, instincts that strive for satisfaction. The term superego describes the inner voice or conscience of a person. The ego is the conscious self that is created by the opposing forces of the superego and id (Thornton). Freud, also, wrote an essay, The Interpretation of Dreams, which outlined the idea of the mind harboring desires outside of conscious thought. These desires manifest in dreams, thereby creating a puzzle to be read and interpreted (Freud 397). With this in mind, an excerpt from Marlow says: It seems to me I am trying to tell you a dream ââ¬â making a vain attempt, because no relation of a dream can convey the dream-sensation, that commingling of absurdity, surprise, and bewilderment in a tremor of struggling revolt, that notion ofShow MoreRelatedHeart Of Darkness By Joseph Conrad1471 Words à |à 6 PagesIn the story Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad a sailor decides to travel to Africa on a whim, using family connections he enlists as the captain of a ship travelling up the Congo River. These people were believed to have come from across the bridge from Asia. They were mistakenly called Indians by European explorers, who thought that they had reached India. These people lived in tribes and traded among themselves. They had little contact with other people. In 1492, Christopher Columbus, an Italian sailing under the Spanish flag, set out to find a passage to Asia and discovered a New World. From then on the English, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and French sailed there looking for gold and riches. North America offered little to the new comers so many did not stay. Later in 1607 a band of Englishmen built the first settlement. Throughout the colonies, people lived mainly on small farms and were self-sufficient. Some necessities and all luxuries were imported in return for tobacco, rice, and indigo exports. By the 18th century patterns of development were clear. By 1770, the North American colonies were ready to become part of the emerging self-government movement. This led to the American Revolution. The Industrial Revolution began in Europe in the late 18th century and early 19th centuries, and it quickly spread to the US. The rapid economic development following the Civil War laid the groundwork for the modern US industrial economy. An explosion of new discoveries and inventions took place. It is also known as realized strategy because it is implemented when it is needed in an organization. Changes in an organization may lead to new challenges and opportunities. An organization will respond to the opportunities and challenges by employing an emergent strategy. Emergent strategy is also the process of being able to identify outcomes that are not in line with the planned strategy put in place and learning how to integrate the changes in the future. This strategy is not intended and cannot be planned in any way. In an organization, the strategy comes about when a series of acts which become a culture despite the precise intentions. Unlike deliberate strategies, emergent strategies enable an organization to learn how things work and what is best for the organization. Mintzberg explains that a strategy will emerge over time as objectives of t he organization are not met (Mintzberg, 1994). When planned strategies in an organization are not met, emergent strategies are used to counter the problems that may arise. Emergent strategies are used in an organization when the present assumptions in the organization are not valid and when the development taking place overtakes the planned strategy put in place. If there are valid and rapid changes in the external environment of an organization, then an emergent strategy would be implemented. For example, if the market becomes competitive, the organization will have to change its marketing strategies by implementing an emergent strategy. If the internal environment of an organization changes, planned strategies will have to be stopped and an emergent strategy be implemented (Lee, 2009). Careful planning is needed because AET operates in the highly competitive petroleum industry. AET is one of five national software companies that provide an accounting and business management package for oil jobbers and gasoline distributors. A few years ago, AET jumped into the ââ¬Å"application service providerâ⬠world. Their large data center provides clients with remote access to AETââ¬â¢s complete suite of application software systems. Traditionally, one of AETââ¬â¢s primary competitive advantages has been the companyââ¬â¢s trademark IT reliability. Due to the complexity of this project, Brian will have to use a parallel method of implementation. Although this will increase project costs, a parallel approach is essential if reliability is not to be compromised. Currently, AETââ¬â¢s data center is located on the second floor of a renovated old bank building in downtown Corvallis, Oregon. The company is moving to a new, one-level building located in the recently developed industrial complex at the Corvallis International Airport. On February 1, Brian is formally assigned the task by the Vice-President of Operations, Dan Whitmore, with the following guidelines: â⬠¢ From start to finish, it is anticipated the entire project will take three to four months to complete. â⬠¢ It is essential that AETââ¬â¢s 235 clients suffer no downtime. Whitmore advises Brian to come back to the Executive Committee on February 15, with a presentation on the scope of the project that includes costs, ââ¬Å"firstcutâ⬠timeline, and proposed project team members. Brian had some preliminary discussions with some of AETââ¬â¢s managers and directors from each of the functional departments and then arranged for a full-day scope meeting on February 4 with a few of the managers and technical representatives from operations, systems, facilities, and applications. The scope team determined the following: â⬠¢ Three to four months is a feasible project timeline and first-cut cost estimate is $80,000ââ¬â$90,000 (this includes the infrastructure upgrade of the new site). Critical to the ââ¬Å"no-downtimeâ⬠requirement is the need to completely rely on AETââ¬â¢s remote disaster recovery ââ¬Å"hotâ⬠site for full functionality. â⬠¢ Brian will serve as project manager of a team consisting of one team member each from facilities, operations/systems, operations/telecommunications, systems & applications, and customer service. Brianââ¬â¢s Executive Committee report was positively received and, after a few modifications and reco mmendations, he was formally charged with responsibility for the project. Brian recruited his team and scheduled their first team meeting (March 1) as the initial task of his project planning process. Case197 Once the initial meeting is conducted Brian can hire the contractors to renovate the new data center. During this time Brian will figure out how to design the network. Brian estimates that screening and hiring a contractor will take about one week and that the network design will take about two weeks. The new center requires a new ventilation system. The manufacturerââ¬â¢s requirements include an ambient temperature of 67 degrees to keep all of the data servers running at optimal speeds. The ventilation system has a lead time of three weeks. Brian will also need to order new racks to hold the servers, switches, and other network devices. The racks have a two-week delivery time. The data center supervisor requested that Brian replace all of the old power supplies and data cables. Brian will need to order these as well. Because Brian has a great relationship with the vendor, they guarantee that it will take only one week lead time for the power supplies and the data cables. Once the new ventilation system and racks arrive, Brian can begin installing them. It will take one week to install the ventilation system and three weeks to install the racks. The renovation of the new data center can begin as soon as the contractors have been hired. The contractors tell Brian that construction will take 20 days. Once the construction begins and before Brian installs the ventilation system and racks, the city inspector must approve the construction of the raised floor. The city inspector will take two days to approve the infrastructure. After the city inspection and after the new power supplies and cables have arrived, Brian can install the power supplies and run the cables. Brian estimates that it will take five days to install the power supplies and one week to run all of the data cables. Before Brian can assign an actual date for taking the network off line and switching to the hot remote site, he must get approval from each of the functional units (ââ¬Å"Switchover Approvalâ⬠). Meetings with each of the functional units will require one week. During this time he can initiate a power check to ensure that each of the racks has sufficient voltage. This will require only one day. Upon completion of the power check, he can take one week to install his test servers. The test servers will test all of the primary network functions and act as a safeguard before the network is taken off line. The batteries must be charged, ventilation installed, and test servers up and running before management can be assured that the new infrastructure is safe, which will take two days. Then they will sign off the Primary Systems check, taking one day of intense meetings. They will also set an official date for the network move. Brian is happy that everything has gone well thus far and is convinced that the move will go just as smoothly. Now that an official date is set, the network will be shut down for a day. Brian must move all of the network components to the new data center. Brian will do the move over the weekendââ¬âtwo daysââ¬âwhen user traffic is at low point. maryannbennett199http://www.blogger.com/profile/06646277293866896517noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6351183451376243265.post-91214246331506178062020-01-08T23:22:00.001-08:002020-01-08T23:22:04.120-08:00Relationship Between Relationships And Relationships ââ¬Å"Does anything in this world actually last forever?â⬠That is a question that stays in the minds of humans all around the world. They say that they will ââ¬Å" stay rich foreverâ⬠or that they will ââ¬Å"never change their moralsâ⬠, are these accurate? These are the questions our society must ask ourselves before the perishing of man-kind. There are a plethora of people who think that everything will last forever, but it will not. Friendships are unique relationships because unlike family relationships, we choose to enter into them. A friend is a person cable of loving regardless of whether he is being loved or not. Friendships can exist between same sex: man-man, woman-woman, or opposite sex: man-woman. It transcends age and could subsist between even an old man and small boy. Human beings also establish relationships with their pet such as cats, dogs, horses, doves, and even parrots. Friendships can also be felt in familial relationships between father and son, mother and daughter, husband and wife, brother and sister, elder sibling and younger sibling. Yet, more than friendship, love is the blinding force in familial relationships. In a deeper sense, love is below friendship because friendship is the start to love. Patents promoteâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This is a case for social inefficiency. In this case, if charging for access excludes some would-be consumers, the result is waste. The example of AIDS drugs illustrates this point: AIDS drugs are relatively inexpensive to produce. They are sufficiently inexpensive to produce, that the benefits to in lives saved exceed the costs of producing the drugs by orders of magnitude (Foray, 2010). But because of patents, no price competition is permitted and the patent holders (the large pharmaceutical companies) charge such an enormous premium over the cost of producing the drugs ââ¬â to reap large profits from sales in rich countries ââ¬â that individuals in many countries cannot afford them. Here is an example where the overpricing has real and enormous social costs. Empirical analyses of historical data have emphasized the role of patent laws in creating incentives to invent, promoting innovation, and encouraging economic growth (Khan and Sokoloff 1993; Lamoreaux and Sokoloff 1999; Khan 2005). Patent rights affect the process of cumulative innovation by knowledge spillovers which they have to disclose information about patent ââ¬â it lies at the heart of the recent macroeconomic theory literature on innovation and growth, like endogenous growth models discussed by Grossman and Helpman (1991), Aghion and Howitt (!992), and Acemoglu and Akcigit (2012). Their parting was our dissolution, they will never know their household gods are slain. â⬠An intense end to Philip Hobsbaumââ¬â¢s poem ââ¬ËHousehold godsââ¬â¢ which presents the life of a broken home after the people that lived there have parted and left. We will write a custom essay sample on Houshold Gods or any similar topic only for you Order Now Through the use of personification, rhyme, punctuation and diction, these small speeches convey the idea of a once happy and lively household now lost and the mournful end it faces. Philip Hobsbaumââ¬â¢s design of structure, punctuation and rhyme establish the furnitureââ¬â¢sââ¬â¢ personified being. The poem is divided into nine stanzas, each consist of four lines enclosed by quotation marks to show a different speaker in each stanza. In the first, eighth, and ninth stanza the second and fourth lines rhyme, and these stanzas are spoken by the gods as a group. In stanzas two to seven, they speak as individuals, the first and third lines rhyme as well as the second and fourth. This personification of the gods allow them to identify with the reader at a more personal level and be able to connect with him, The first stanza is spoken by the entire household, describing its role in observing the breaking of the lives of this couple ââ¬Å"I saw them. I was there. â⬠The author introduces the poem with a gloomy heavy tone, relying on words such as ââ¬Å"breaking,â⬠ââ¬Å"distraught,â⬠and ââ¬Å"despair. â⬠The couplesââ¬â¢ breakup is ââ¬Å"mirroredâ⬠by the household and foreshadows their future departure. The second and third stanzas are from an individual point of view, they represent some of the coupleââ¬â¢s possessions recollecting their joyful past. At first, what seems to be a musical instrument belonging to the woman grieves its disuse, stating that it has ââ¬Å"so long been silentâ⬠and it laments over the days when her ââ¬Å"long fingers once caressed [it]. â⬠It also introduces a passionate part of the coupleââ¬â¢s relationship previously as it asks: ââ¬Å"was that how at one time she touched him? â⬠The third stanza introduces maleââ¬â¢s possession as it recalls a happy past when ââ¬Å"his lips on mineâ⬠¦warmed my clay. â⬠This god is most likely a mug that the occupant used, and now he describes the ââ¬Å"kissâ⬠that he used to receive as ââ¬Å"broken and swept away. These missing parts of the house are what take its life away; music brings joy to a home, and coffee in the morning is an indicator of life. The coupleââ¬â¢s relationship can be related to the cup, as it was once warm full of embraces and kisses ââ¬Ëin the morning or in darknessââ¬â¢, and now it is broken and being ââ¬Å"swept awayâ⬠as it ends. A rug mentions its experience next; it describes the past state of the couple as it used to serve ââ¬Ëtheir steady feet,ââ¬â¢ but now their steps are ââ¬Ëtentativeââ¬â¢ as they become more reluctant to come across each other. In the past there was a sense of life to the house, but now the carpet feels sorrowful as it becomes a ââ¬Å"street for strangersâ⬠as it is no longer able to recognize the transformed couple. It expresses its dismay in the last line which does not flow with the previous stanza to show its feeling of worthlessness and abandonment; it used to serve this couple but now it is merely ââ¬Å"jute and woolâ⬠at the front of the house. The god in the fourth stanza, a room or the house also reflects on its abandoned state. It describes the time when they cared for it and made it ââ¬Å"in terms of their visionâ⬠, however, the state that the room is in at this point shows neglect and deterioration as the ââ¬Å"walls are pealing. â⬠The house relates to the rug, as it also begins to feel useless after his ââ¬Å"occupants have fled. â⬠The sixth and seventh stanzas describe the final scene that this house lives. The sixth stanza is spoken by a clock, which ironically speaks of time which does not repeat itself, unlike her hands. It also speaks about ââ¬Å"the climactial momentâ⬠which has passed and will never reoccur again, no matter ââ¬Å"whoever will come. This may refer to the house, which has reached an optimum point, and is now falling and could never be restored. The clock tries to ââ¬Å"cough a final chimeâ⬠but it so badly neglected that it couldnââ¬â¢t ââ¬Å"henceforth [it is] dumbâ⬠. The seventh stanza is very similar to the first, except that it is being spoken from an individual point of view. A mirror is speaking about how it ââ¬Å"mirrored their coming hereâ⬠and is now watching them leave; it is only concerned about ââ¬Å"their outer semblanceâ⬠since it only deals with superficial aspects of people. The repetition of this stanza serves as closure to the relationship of this couple and their departure, leaving the house for destruction and decay. The final two stanzas are spoken by the gods as a whole, describing the death of the gods as life leaves the house for good. The eighth stanza describes the image of the house: ââ¬Ëwithout a purpose,ââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëchairs not to be sat on,ââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëthe books are stackedââ¬â¢. The author uses a metaphor in the last line ââ¬Ëa house grown coldââ¬â¢ to emphasize the death of the house, similar to the way a human corpse becomes after all life has disappeared from it and it slowly starts decaying. The final stanza shows the reader that these gods cannot live without the presence of occupants, ââ¬Å"their life gave ours meaning. â⬠Yet there is no possible way for the return of these gods as ââ¬Å"broken homes will not set againâ⬠, the concluding presence of the gods is set in the last line ââ¬Å"they will never know their household gods are slainâ⬠in order to show the oblivious manner of the couple who will never know of the suffering that those around them went through, and they will never learn of their death. In this poem, Philip Hobsbaum integrates emotions with household objects in order to allow the reader to relate to a broken household. The author shows the strong consequences that are caused by a broken home, and the need for a strong relationship to maintain it. Hobsbaum seeks to show the readers that a broken home causes such powerful destruction, such as the death of gods, in order to motivate couples to maintain strong relationships, for their farewells are able to create irreversible damage. However, only Japan transformed its traditional society and became the only country in Asia that had colony outside. In my point of view, the Japanese success is depending on determination of the government and the strength of it reform. So what makes Japan have the determination to reform the whole traditional society entirely? Opium War: In 1840, Britain started the Opium War in China. Because of corruption of the Chinese government and Advanced British army, in the end of the war, China was defeated. Japan shocked. China, a wealth and strong empire, an advanced country Japan learned from for thousand years, failed in a war with a real empire. Japanese contemplated and hesitated. What they should do when they have to face those strong enemies. I think that one of the reason why the Black Ships arrived in Japan in 1853 and forced Japanese to accept them, and Japan did so, even with welcoming attitudes. More and more western countries came to Japan with new technologies, new products and new work system, etc. Japan is closed for too long time. After saw all those achievements from Industry Revolution by Japaneseââ¬â¢s own eyes, they found the distance between themselves and advanced western countries. All those new things cause the fail of Tokugawa Bakufu. Meiji Restoration started. Government during Meiji Restoration: In April 6 1868, the Oath in Five Articles was published and became the basic guiding principle of the government. Meiji period began. The new government of Japan applied a lot of policy during that time. They changed the traditional society structure. Samurai was no more the lords. Businessman had more attention than before. Government also support a lot industry to get start, the earlier one is filature. In 1882, Japan Central Bank was set. Under the slogan of ââ¬Å"Enrich the Country, strengthen the militaryâ⬠, in 1871, the new government set Iwakura Diplomatic Delegation to visit 12 countries in the Europe and America for almost 2 years. There were 49 government officials in the team, almost half number of the all officials in Japan government. To pay the expense of this trip, the new government used 2% of its GDP of that year. I think that this is part of the reason why Japan reformed its whole society system entirely and learned it from western countries. On the other side, 58 years after Opium War, China also had a restoration, called The Reform Movement. It was supported by the Emperor Kuang Hus, but it didnââ¬â¢t get support from the government officials, even not from his mother, Empress Tzu Hsi who had real power of China. Most changes and policy applied in China were surface work, didnââ¬â¢t change from the basic principle like what Japan did. The most obvious difference of it was that in 1890, The Constitution of the Empire of Japan was published. All those caused the failure of reformation in China. People in the Meiji Restoration: Shibusawa Eiichi, was a Japanese industrialist, founded more than 500 hundreds of modern corporations in Japan, He was a member of Tokugawa Akitakeââ¬â¢s Delegation to the Paris World Exposition. In this trip, he observed modern European societies and culture for the first time. When he visited Belgium, the king told him the importance of steel industry and hoped Japan can buy from Belgium. Shibusawa Eiichi was so surprised; he said that a king is to sell his countryââ¬â¢s product even when meeting guests from other place. He realized the importance of industrial of a country. Therefore, he decided to stay in European for studying. He came back to Japan in 1868 with his new thought, and got a job in economic department of Meiji government. He became a driving force in the building of a modern Japan as head of the Kaisei Kakari, or office of the Ministry of Finance in charge of reform. Okubo Toshimichi is regarded as one of the main founders of modern Japan. During Meiji Restoration, he was a Finance Minister, enacted a Land Tax Reform, and prohibited samurai from wearing swords in public, even though he was one of them. We can see his determination of changing Japan from very basic. The greatest achievement of him was the establishment of modern governmental structures. For a time he was the most powerful man in Japan. On 14 May 1878, he was assassinated by samurai. Summary: In my opinion, Japan became the only imperial power in Asia during nineteenth century, because the way it reformed. Japanââ¬â¢s restoration was not only applied on industry like China, but also on government system and society structure. The development on its society structure and police system helped Japan have much faster progress in industry than any other countries at that time. maryannbennett199http://www.blogger.com/profile/06646277293866896517noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6351183451376243265.post-4867460101218176142019-11-29T20:29:00.001-08:002019-11-29T20:29:03.004-08:00To Waken an Old Lady The poem To Waken an Old Lady ideally looks at the effects of growing old. In a bid to deliver the message of the poem, the author uses various interesting tools. As I read the poem, I was interested in the manner in which the author employs literary devices in passing across the message. Other aspects such as language, form, and content are also crucial in the poem. The content of the poem is interesting as the author narrows down to the concept of old age.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on To Waken an Old Lady specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More One of the fascinating literary devices used in the poem is the rhythm employed. The poem is replete with run-on lines. A run-on line is a line whose message extends to be expressed in the following line. For example, although lines 1-6 are different lines, the message being communicated in these lines is interconnected. There is also the use of approximate rhyme in some ins tances. The author of the poem creates a structure that gives the reader thoughts that are removed from reality. This makes the poem appear as if it is reflective of something that happened in the past. The rhythm disappears in line ten which acts as a transition from describing old age to describing the setting in of death. There is a hyphen in line nine which implies that there is a halt in the thoughts of the author. The author takes time to think about the nature of the so-called ââ¬Ëdark wind.ââ¬â¢ Approximate rhyme appears in various lines of the poem such as line 4 and 7 where we have the words ââ¬Ëskimming and failingââ¬â¢. There is also the use of words like buffeted and rested in lines 8 and 12 (Rath, 2003). Another important literary device used in this poem is the use of metaphors and imagery. The images of birds which are described to be ââ¬Ëskimming bare trees above a snow gazeââ¬â¢ present a tone full of sorrow (All poetry, n.d). Words like ââ¬Ëba re trees,ââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëdark windââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëshrill pipingââ¬â¢ are a representation of lack of hope and death. In the poem, a woman is portrayed as having realized that her life must come to an end. ââ¬ËFlight of small cheeping birdsââ¬â¢ is metaphorical explaining old age. The images of cheeping birds and ââ¬Ëshrill piping of plentyââ¬â¢ is a contrast to the little hope held by a small percentage of before their deaths and the sharp cries of the majority who discover that death is a must even if they prevent it (All poetry, n.d). The poem presents its content in a calm form and structure but a depressing manner. The poem is attractive due to its explicit portrayal of imagery and reading; it is truly an experience. It causes the reader to think of cheeping birds which are fighting to defeat the wind and landing on a tree after tree as death approaches.Advertising Looking for essay on american literature? Despite the dark expression of the images and subject of the poem, an appealing language has been used. Some of the rhyming words are negative but create an appealing rhythm to the reader (Allpoetry, n.d). The elements discussed have affected my response to the poem in different ways. For example, the vividness of the imagery causes me to have the opinion that the persona in the poem is most likely to be the aging woman or a person who observes the woman as she realizes how inevitable death is. This makes it possible to relate with the poem and even personalizing it since its explanations are from the perspective of a person who experiences old age first hand. The descriptions made in the poem are therefore made more credible. The rhyme applied in the poem is so interesting such that I focused on it more than I focused on other aspects in the poem. Several have more than one. Government business and schools are conducted in the official language. Official documents are printed in the official language. Knowledge of the countryââ¬â¢s official language is usually one of the stated requirements for citizenship. For example, here are some language requirements I found in naturalization guidelines available on the web: Canada Be able to communicate in one of Canadaââ¬â¢s official languages. France Provide proof of adequate knowledge of the French language. Germany Be able to speak German to B1 standard in the Common European Framework of Reference. Mexico Prove knowledge of Spanish and Mexican history. UK Be able to communicate in English, Welsh or Scottish Gaelic to an acceptable degree. USA Pass an English test Just how stringently the language requirement is enforced varies from place to place. Knowledge of Japanese is not specifically mentioned in the guidelines I found on line, but because an applicant for citizenship must complete the process entirely in Japanese, itââ¬â¢s unlikely that anyone could achieve citizenship without considerable fluency in the language. The UK has only recently required applicants for citizenship to provide proof they can speak the local language at the B1 level; the outcry against the stiffer requirements is still in progress. A speaker at the B1 level can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. can deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken. can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest. can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. Under a new rule, Canada now requires something similar to the European B1: ââ¬Å"applicants [for citizenship] must provide objective evidence that they meet the language requirement, achieving the Canadian Language Benchmark/Niveau de compà ©tence linguistique canadien 4 speaking and listening, when they file their application.â⬠The United States government, on the other hand, is not only very generous in providing test waivers, but it doesnââ¬â¢t provide much of a test to those who canââ¬â¢t claim exemption. A new citizen commenting at the Business Week site describes his experience: I prepared for three months for this exam. [] For the reading part of the exam, I was asked to read the following sentence: Today is a sunny day. For the writing part of the exam, I was asked to write the following words: Today is a sunny day. [] I was flat out insulted. It doesnââ¬â¢t seem unreasonable to expect immigrants who plan to spend the rest of their lives in a country to learn to speak the countryââ¬â¢s language of government and education. The exemplary performance in this field did not come by hard work alone but was accompanied by discipline, focus, and mentorship from various teachers. I must say that most of the personal development I have today is because of the modeling I have experienced during my undergraduate degree. The electrical engineering course was one of the toughest tasks I have ever undergone in my entire life. It involved solving complex problems and performing rigorous researches in various units within the course. However, I did not relent in growing both personally and professionally. Personal development began with my enactment to the head of student council in 2006. The student leadership enhanced my leadership skills. However, personal development went beyond to encompass intercultural activities for which I received acknowledgment from UAE embassy. All the challenges and opportunities I have experienced have taught me to optimize my mental resources to think logically about difficult and complex problems. There are many people who are opposed and feel it is morally and ethically wrong and others who feel that same-sex marriages are acceptable. Prior to writing about this topic I had no strong feelings toward or against the issue on same-sex marriages. After researching and finding out more information on the topic, I became in favor of allowing those of the same-sex to have there marriages legalized. Many people ask themselves why gays and lesbians even want to attempt to get laws past to be allowed to get married. Why would they want to be married? Are they not happy with the relationship in which they have? Gays and lesbians are just like heterosexuals, they want there marriages to be recognized by the law. They are like any normal couple and want a marriage to prove and show their love for each other. They want that simple document that the government gives to heterosexuals which binds two people into a marriage. What exactly is marriage then? Marriage is a legal relationship between spouses; it is established by a civil or religious ceremony, and takes place between two people who intend to live together as sexual and domestic partners. The AIDS epidemic stirred up many questions and brought public attention on a range of issues surrounding gay and lesbian rights. Legalizing same-sex marriages may help prevent aids. If two people are in a marriage then they are less apt to have many sexual partners and will help stop the spread of AIDS. Other people feel that same-sex marriages are not a proper place to raise children. This is a truly false statement because there are many people who have children and procreate that should not have that right. For instance, murderers, child molesters, drug and alcohol addicts are all free to procreate and raise children and homosexuals are not. This does not make sense. If a person can raise a child and give them love, shelter, food and other necessary resources to raise a child, then they should be given the right to raise a child. Just because a child has more than one mother or father does not mean that they are going to grow up gay or have emotional problems. maryannbennett199http://www.blogger.com/profile/06646277293866896517noreply@blogger.com0
